The Main Event of the 2010 World Series of Poker is currently underway and this year's WSOP has shattered numerous records.

Many were concerned how a downtrodden economy would affect the WSOP, but by all indications, the WSOP is stronger than ever.

Overall Attendance Up by 20 Percent Overall, the World Series of Poker drew 72,966 players to its 57 different events.

Last year, this number was just 60,875.

Much of this is attributed to the six $1,000 NL Holdem Event that were held each weekend of the WSOP.

Each of those events drew over 3,000 players each.

The lower buy-ins made it easier for players to buy their seat, and some just had to play free poker tournaments online to qualify.

The total prize pool offered this year at the WSOP was $187,109,850, a new record.

Poker Growing in All Areas Poker770 and other online sites have a huge impact on the number of players playing in various Texas Holdem events, but all areas of the game saw big numbers, and some record numbers.

The largest Pot Limit Omaha Event in WSOP history was held as Event #20 drew 885 players.

This broke the mark set in Event #5 of the 2009 WSOP of 809.

While poker is every becoming a young man's game, this years Senior's Event drew not only the largest Senior's field in WSOP, but the largest single day for a live poker tournament in the history of poker.

3,142 players turned out for the event proving that poker is popular at all age sets.

The Main Event This year's WSOP Main Event put many safeguards in place to ensure that nobody would be turned away.

Players qualified on their favorite poker site, won their entry at the Rio, or bought in directly and created a field of 7,319 players.

This was the 2nd largest Main Event in the history of the WSOP.

The top prize for the Main Event will be $8,944,138.

As you can tell from the above numbers, the WSOP is growing and still the grandest stage for poker in the world.
